$10,000 Fighting
Fund appeal to stop sale of state houses in Christchurch
Housing Action Canterbury is fighting government plans to
sell 2,500 state houses in Christchurch this year.
We intend to make this act of social vandalism the
biggest issue in Christchurch for the 2017 general election.
To do this we have launched a $10,000 fighting fund.
The fighting fund will be used to get information about the
campaign into every home in Christchurch during early June advertising the
rally and march we have planned for Saturday 17th June, 2pm from
Riccarton’s Shands Crescent reserve.
Speakers confirmed for the rally and march include:
Naenae Higgs – state house
tenant
Bishop Victoria Mathews –
Anglican Church
Megan Woods – Labour MP
Eugenie Sage – Green MP
Paul Watson – First Union
Most of the fighting fund will be spent on a wraparound for
the Christchurch Star newspaper in early June ($6000+ GST). This will promote
the march on 17th June as well as get the message into 92,000 homes
in Christchurch.
Housing Action Canterbury held a very successful public
meeting in early March at the Transitional Cathedral where many prominent
speakers spoke against this government policy.
Our job now is to mobilise the people of Christchurch to
emphatically reject the policy and prevent the government walking away from
state housing in our city.
Can you donate to help make this the number one election
issue in Christchurch this year?
